The Dive Challenge Tour is a project of the IAHD Foundation. The aim is to raise the awareness of scuba diving for and with disabled people. To raise the awareness we organize free introduction dives to inform people about the possibilities, opportunities and characteristics of diving with a handicap. Moreover, we invite scuba professionals, members of diving clubs, staff of rehabilitation centers and press/media to join us that day to learn, promote and enjoy the Dive Challenge for the disabled.
Simon was so happy and so tired. The best thing was, he told me, ‘mama diving in open water is way beyond diving in the pool. If you are in the water, things like pain and so, do not exist.’ This was such a clear remark, it struck me. And even without finding any fish, it was very special for him. This was way more interesting then the pool. He told me he had some difficulties with his mask, but it was no problem at all. He went to school wearing the Dive Challenge Tour t-shirt and singing ‘I really went diving yesterday...’
To Simon diving means like it is a way to feel as if he belongs there. This sounds a little strange but you probably know what I mean.
Thanks again for the great day, Simon actually needed this, somehow.
